Dispatch: The Inevitable Languor of Summer
One notes the arrival of summer in Ennui-sur-Blasé less by the mercury's climb, which is often unreliable, and more by the collective slump of the shoulders observed town-wide around midday. The season unfolds with a predictable, almost rehearsed, torpor. Shutters remain closed until dusk, the clatter of pétanque balls seems slower, more deliberate, and the café proprietors exhibit an even deeper world-weariness than usual.
Our correspondents are, naturally, documenting these subtle shifts. Lucinda Krementz files a report on the peculiar migration patterns of the local gendarmerie towards the single air-conditioned establishment in town, while Roebuck Wright offers a culinary meditation on the declining structural integrity of ice cream cones under the July sun. Expect these, and other vital dispatches, in our forthcoming Summer Issue.
